英諺三百句(上)

這是很久以前唸書時留下來的東西,一直放在櫃子裏沒有丟掉,
今天整理東西的時候翻了出來,
曾經想把它整理成電子檔,但覺得麻煩所以一直擱著,
既然又看到了,那就動手吧。

總共三百五十九句,目前完成三分之一,有些中文翻譯還蠻搞笑的,內容如下。

001. A bad penny always comes back.
   惡有惡報。

002. A bad workman quarrels with his tools.
  = A bad workman always blames his tools.
  = A bad shearer never had a good sickle.
   劣工尤器。

003. A bird in hand is worth two in the bush.
   一鳥在手勝於二鳥在林。

004. A burnt child dreads the fire.
   一朝被蛇咬,十年怕草繩。

005. A cat has nine lives.
   吉人天相。

006. A cat may look at a king.
   君王卿相於我何。

007. A contented mind is a perpetual feast.
   知足長樂。

008. A drowning man will catch at a straw.
   急不暇擇。

009. A fault confessed is half redressed.
   肯認錯是改過的一半。

010. A friend in need is a friend indeed.
   患難之友乃為真友。

   失友易,得友難。

012. A Jack (=man) of all trades is master of none.
   博藝無所精;樣樣通,樣樣鬆。

013. A (=The) leopard cannot change his spots.
   江山易改,本性難移。

014. A little learning is a dangerous thing.
   一知半解最危險。

015. A little pot is soon hot.
   小人物容易發怒。

016. A man is known by the company he keeps.
   觀其友,知其人。

017. A man speaks well when his clock strikes.
   人之將死,其言也善。

018. A miss is as good as a mile.
   大錯小錯終歸是錯,死裏逃生和輕易脫逃結果相同。

019. A new broom sweeps clean.
   新官上任三把火。

020. A penny saved is a penny earned.
   省一文則賺一文。

   玫瑰化做其他名稱依然芳香。(本質不變)

024. A sound mind is in a sound body.
   健全的頭腦寓於健康的身體。

025. A stitch in time saves nine.
   及時行事,事半功倍。

026. A watched pot never boils.
   心急水不沸。(等待的時間特別長)

027. A word spoken is past recalling.
   一言既出,駟馬難追。

028. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
   小別勝新婚。

029. Actions speak louder than words.
   事實勝於雄辯。

030. Advice when most needed is least heeded.
   忠言逆耳。

   飢者不該擇食挑剔。

050. Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home.
   家總是最美好的地方。
